As you can see, these past two weeks have been a little… scattered. I was on cruise that first week in the Bahamas– where it was nice and cool but also rainy and comfortably humid. I was also limited on space and didn’t need an army of skincare, so I was stripping myself down to the bare minimum for a few days there. When I came back, laziness kicked in on a few days, so what you see here are a few days where I did practically nothing and other days where I felt like I needed to make up for it. There’s really not a lot to report at the moment. The Vitamin C serum is going great. Love it. I will likely stick with it for a while, though there’s another brand I definitely want to try– particularly since the other brand is more easily available through Amazon Prime. The It’s Skin serum is easy enough to find on Memebox, but I’m a little antsy about depending solely on them for my K-beauty needs. Their inventory changes a lot, and shipping has been a little slow. Hopefully they’ll get that hammered out.
I’m not 100% sold on the Mizon pink powder. It absolutely works better than the EradiKate, but now that I’ve had a bit of time to work with it, I’m not convinced that it works any better for me than my cheap CVS benzoyl peroxide cream for spot treatment. It CAN however be used alongside retinol treatments, so that might be enough to keep me from ditching it.
So, uh… It’s been several weeks without an AHA product, and my skin STILL does not appear to need additional chemical exfoliation. Hm… I think I’m going to table it for now, though I definitely want to add it (as well as retinol) back into my routine at some point for anti-aging. But for now, I’m cool. I have other uses for the Garnier peel for now (as in, the KP on my arms), and there are other AHA products I’d rather use on my face, so this will be taken from my spreadsheet, soon. Yes, I went a little nuts with everything. Sort of.
First off, I completely scrapped my previous idea to use this round to introduce my peel. Turns out, I don’t really think I need it. With all the other acids I put on my face and my regular use of a konjac sponge, my skin hasn’t gone dull not once in these past two weeks without the assistance of an AHA product, so I’ll wait a little bit before I worry with it. Instead, I moved on to that Skyn day cream I’ve been jonesing to try out. (I love it, by the way.) Continue reading “Skincare Diary: September 26, 2016”→
This past week, I really wanted to give myself a chance to use up at least one of my tinier samples, and as you can see… I was able to get that accomplished. That’s pretty much the only thing I intended to do here, but I ended up loving the consistency of this sunscreen so much, I’m considering purchasing a full size to give it more of a full go. My only real issue is that I used it on top of a separate moisturizer, and my skin is so oily during summer months that I really probably shouldn’t have done that. It could probably be used by itself (for me) as a moisturizer, so if I give it another go, that’s what I’ll do. Continue reading “Skincare Diary: September 11, 2016”→
So yeah… I need to talk for a second about this particular comic artist. This is C. Cassandra, and as you can see… She knows me. I don’t mean that she “knows” me as in we meet every Tuesday for drinks and bar food while we chit chat about life– though that would be awesome. I mean that she “knows” me in that just about every comic she’s put out has hit the nail on the head with my own life experiences. She’s amazing, and you should definitely check her out. I just found this one particularly relevant to my eye makeup remover experiences. (Waterproof mascara is a particularly sneaky little abomination.) Continue reading “Skincare Diary: August 28, 2016”→
Yep. The new school year is officially kicking my butt, and I have no clue what I’d do without my critical combination of Google Calendar, YNAB, Google Docs, and Monarch. Thankfully, it’s starting to fall into place, and the first FULL week back (last week) wasn’t quite so bad. This next week, we get to do science experiments and other cool things, and since I’ve been focused so much on getting my daughter ahead, we’re able to take it a bit easier on days we need to. We’re even looking at taking a cruise sometime in mid-September or early October. Continue reading “Skincare Diary: August 21, 2016”→
Yeah, things didn’t exactly go according to plan this week. I decided to switch up between the new daily moisturizer with sunscreen and the one I’m using up, and I couldn’t keep up with which one I’d planned to use on what day because I was too darn lazy to look at my planner. Ditto with my micellar and my Proactiv cleanser. I also got way lazy on Friday night and didn’t bother with most of my routine, but I’ll give myself credit for at least getting in one lazy cleanse, toner, Benton’s, and a PM moisturizer, and I simply moved my regularly scheduled clay mask to Saturday. Where has the summer gone?! It doesn’t seem like it should be the end of July. I’m sitting here pouring through school curriculum stuff and cleaning up my office (which is utter chaos) and turning it into a more functioning classroom for the 2015-2016 school year… Last year was fine, and I might have even gone a bit overboard out of fear that my kid was behind. (If the placement tests so far are any indication, we’ll be starting her 5th grade year with 6th grade math and about halfway through her 5th grade language arts. Whoopsie! Sorry for being a drill sergeant last year, kiddo!) Continue reading “Skincare Diary: July 31, 2016”→
As you guys can see, this past week has been a little less chaotic. Things are planned out and a bit more uniform. You can see the week going forward continues this theme. Last week’s newbie was Mizon’s AHA & BHA Daily Clean Toner (currently about $20 on Amazon), which might be discontinued. I keep hearing a few different things. If that’s the case, I’m going to need something else once this is out. I still have a bit of my Naobay toner left, but not much, so I’ll definitely need to purchase something for my backup bottle once I’m about halfway through the Mizon. So far I really like it.I can see why it’s had such a cult following.
The product I’m introducing this week has changed. Initially I was going to introduce the NYX tea tree serum, but my COOLA moisturizer/sunscreen was running low, so I decided to introduce the Garnier day moisturizer with sunscreen instead. The elf gel that I’m going to discontinue after I’ve found another TTO product is cheap, so the NYX can wait another two weeks. (Two weeks because I’ve been sent a Clarins mailer for testing, so that’ll come first.)
Here’s what I’ve been doing so far:
Simple Micellar Water or Proactiv Cleanser
Proactive Repair (benzoyl peroxide)
e.l.f. Acne Fighting Gel
COOLA moisturizer with sunscreen
Julep Oil Cleanser
Yes to Tomatoes (usually) or Dr. Jart+ TransFoam Clay (1-2x/week)
Mizon AHA/BHA toner
Stridex (every other night)
Roc serum (AHA, retinol; 1-2x/week)
Epice wash off hydrating mask (1-2x/week)
Fresh Black Tea Toner
Benton Snail Bee Essence
Sheet Mask (2-3x/week)
Neutrogena Grapefruit Moisturizer w/ 3 drops Palmer’s face oil (when not using Roc serum)
Origins Drink Up Overnight Mask (when using Roc serum)
