Skincare Diary: August 28, 2016

So yeah… I need to talk for a second about this particular comic artist. This is C. Cassandra, and as you can see… She knows me. I don’t mean that she “knows” me as in we meet every Tuesday for drinks and bar food while we chit chat about life– though that would be awesome. I mean that she “knows” me in that just about every comic she’s put out has hit the nail on the head with my own life experiences. She’s amazing, and you should definitely check her out. I just found this one particularly relevant to my eye makeup remover experiences. (Waterproof mascara is a particularly sneaky little abomination.) Continue reading “Skincare Diary: August 28, 2016”

August 2016 Ipsy Review

My ipsy bag this month was later than usual due to the fact that I cashed in some points that were expiring. Also, I noticed AFTER taking pictures that my vanity (that pretty wooden surface I use as a neutral background for most of my photos) has dog hair on it, so you’ll have to excuse that. It’s one of the pitfalls of having two messy but incredibly cuddle-hungry and sweet white-haired dogs.

August 2016 Bulu Box Review

Purchased

One of the non-beauty boxes that I’m still subscribing to is Bulu Box. Regularly, this is $10/month, but My Subscription Addiction has a wonderful code (MYSUB99) that gives you your first box for just 99¢ and all boxes throughout the duration of your subscription for just $5/month, which is what I pay. Considering the retail value of the average box I get from Bulu Box as well as their points, that’s an AMAZING deal. That’s something I’ll cover later on.

Each box comes with a card detailing the items in your box. As you can see in the upper right corner, Bulu box has a points system similar to the old Birchbox system in that you earn $1 back in credit toward their shop for every item you review. I paid $5 for this box, and I’m getting $6 back in credit just for reviewing everything. Not only am I breaking even right away, but I’m also getting paid an extra dollar– and that’s just for GETTING the box. That doesn’t even include the value of the items they’ve sent me! All of these items are available in their store to purchase at full price if you want to cash out your points, and anything in the current month’s box will ship for free until the 15th of the following month. (For anything else, you’ll need an order of $50 or more to ship for free.) Continue reading “August 2016 Bulu Box Review”

Beauteque Mask Maven August 2016 Review

Purchased

Beauteque Mask Maven Subscription

Mask Maven is a monthly subscription from online Asian beauty retailer Beauteque. Each month you get 9-11 masks, usually sheet masks but occasionally other kids, for $15 + shipping ($18.95 total). It’s not a great deal when it comes to retail value. Usually you’ll end up simply breaking even or maybe a bit better. This one is all about curation and introducing yourself to new brands and products. Considering how new I am to Asian beauty and how deep the sheet mask rabbit hole goes, this is right up my alley. Skincare Diary: August 21, 2016

Yep. The new school year is officially kicking my butt, and I have no clue what I’d do without my critical combination of Google Calendar, YNAB, Google Docs, and Monarch. Thankfully, it’s starting to fall into place, and the first FULL week back (last week) wasn’t quite so bad. This next week, we get to do science experiments and other cool things, and since I’ve been focused so much on getting my daughter ahead, we’re able to take it a bit easier on days we need to. We’re even looking at taking a cruise sometime in mid-September or early October. Continue reading “Skincare Diary: August 21, 2016”

Yeah, things didn’t exactly go according to plan this week. I decided to switch up between the new daily moisturizer with sunscreen and the one I’m using up, and I couldn’t keep up with which one I’d planned to use on what day because I was too darn lazy to look at my planner. Ditto with my micellar and my Proactiv cleanser. I also got way lazy on Friday night and didn’t bother with most of my routine, but I’ll give myself credit for at least getting in one lazy cleanse, toner, Benton’s, and a PM moisturizer, and I simply moved my regularly scheduled clay mask to Saturday.  Continue reading “Skincare Diary: August 7, 2016”

Review: Benefit “That Gal” Brightening Face Primer

Everyone seems to be pushing Benefit’s brow products or mascara these days. Subscription boxes everywhere are trying to convince me that I NEED some Roller Lash (which I hate) or They’re Real (which I think is good but not enough to get me to pay $24 for a mascara) or Gimme Brow. The brow products have been featured in one way or another for the past three months, and the mascaras have become so common a find in boxes that there’s a running joke about how they need to clean out their warehouses by giving everyone mascara. And on that same thought regarding the mascara, if you have more than one beauty box subscription, chances are it’s been a while since you’ve needed to buy mascara. I currently have six tubes sitting unopened in my stash– two of which are Benefit mascaras. Continue reading “Review: Benefit “That Gal” Brightening Face Primer”
