I’ve got to say… Even though I was slightly underwhelmed this month, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by a few things, and there’s only one thing that I can say I probably won’t use, so this month is still a win for me with both subscriptions. I still might dump one of them if Sephora and Macy’s decide to let me play with them, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Lait-Crème Concentré (24-Hour Miracle Cream) Link
This is supposed to be a multitasker, and that’s great, but I’m honestly not too impressed. It seems like… well, like any other moisturizer, to me. For the price and all the raving about it, I guess I was expecting more. Maybe it should do a dance or something? As for multitaskers, my favorite remains Cetaphil. You can use it as a cleanser, moisturizer, or makeup remover, and it’s a little more than $10 for a huge container of it. I liked this, but I didn’t like it more than Cetaphil, which is substantially cheaper.
Super Comb Prep & Protect Link
I don’t do heat styling much, and neither does my daughter, but this does double as a hair sunscreen, so I can still use it at least. My only issue with it is that it smells a little weird to me.
Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk Link
I use dry shampoo, so I’m glad to have this, and I can get some decent mileage out of a 1 oz. sample. I’m not a huge fan of the scent, but it’s not repelling. I don’t notice any residue, which is good.
Black Magic Mascara Link
I’m not exactly hopping up and down with joy that the mascara (which is not an item I’m particularly thrilled about getting) is one of those items that pays for the box. At least it has a brush I like– one of those thick bristly ones. I hate the short and spikey plastic bristle brushes.
Delight Tony Tint Link
I might do a full review on this one. I’m guessing at the value of this because there’s not weight listed on the sample, but it looks like it’s maybe about 1/3 of a full size. I should get plenty of wear out of it. It smells really nice, like cherries. I can also adjust the coverage on my lips from barely there to a cherry red lip that won’t budge. For some reason I was thinking it would work for cheeks as well. It doesn’t, but that doesn’t appear to be in the product description.
My box this month was valued at $25.66, which is more than double what I paid, and I’ll use it. I probably won’t purchase anything from it except for maybe the TONYMOLY lip stain. That was a pleasant find. Birchbox had such great boxes in October and November, so maybe that’s why I feel a little underwhelmed by December and January. February at least looks good from what I’ve seen of it, but I’ll get to that in another post.
Birchbox is just $10/month. The value of these boxes is typically more than that, and it’s usually things that you will want to use. I’ve also had to spend less of my money on skin care, hair care, and makeup as a result of these subscriptions. If you’d like to give it a try, click here.
I didn’t think I’d like the bag for this month (the makeup bag everything comes in, not the contents), but I think it’s grown on me a bit. It’s the one pictured above, and it’s kind of fun. I think I might finally swap out the one I got back in October and use this one for January.
Mr. Write (Now) Link
Every Ipster should get one of these in their bag this month in one of two colors, and considering it’s a full-size pencil that sells for $17, your bag is already paid for. Mine is in Jac B. Bronze, which is a pretty gold, but I do already have two other pencils in a similar color. It’ll make a nice backup, as I’m already a huge fan of the brand. This is a twist-up pencil that doesn’t require sharpening, and the formula really seems to glide on and stay put.
City Color Cosmetics
Eyeshadow Trio in Falling Leaves Link
I’m not really in the market for eyeshadow right now. I have so much of it, and I actually have another trio that I got from Ipsy with very similar colors, so this is probably going to be gifted. The colors are pretty and neutral, so they could work for anyone. That said, this has the feel of something that was tossed into my bag as a kind of extra item.
BLUE LOTUS 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum Link
Gimme a minute. I’m doing my eye cream dance. Yes, I have an eye cream dance. I really like eye cream. You all know this. The full size of this is 0.5 oz and priced at $65. This is a 0.24 oz sample (nearly half a full size). The last time someone sent me a good size expensive eye cream/serum sample, it was Birchbox sending me Shiseido, and I fell in love. There’s no fragrance that I can detect, and a little seems to pack a very big punch. I’ll probably do a more thorough write up on it later on.
Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme Link
This is another item that I feel like was just tossed in there, but I’m not hating it. We go through some lip balm in our house, so somebody will use it. What I do like about this is that every purchase of this balm helps fun cleft surgeries for children, so it’s supporting a good cause.
Jelly Pong Pong
Fairy Lashes CURL Link
I believe this might just be full size, and oh em gee… I don’t hate the brush. I still have some very choice things I could say about getting even more mascara I don’t need, but at least it looks promising.
The total value for my Ipsy bag this month, not counting discounts and the bag included, is (sit down if you aren’t already) $80.13. Let me repeat that… For $10, I got a bag of products worth over $80! Are you freaking KIDDING me?!?! That might just be the highest value $10 box I’ve gotten so far. Ipsy definitely wins with me this month, even if I wasn’t thrilled about everything I was getting.
